Federal Power Commission
Under the Federal Power Act of 1935 the authority of the Federal Power Commission, which had been created in 1920 to manage hydroelectric power, was amended to enable it to regulate all electric energy no matter how it was generated. This power was further increased in 1938 when it was extended under the Natural Gas Act to include natural gas production. In 1977, the Federal Power Commission became the Department of Energy.
