American Liberty League

An anti-New Deal organization, the American Liberty League was formed in August 1934 by conservative politicians and businessmen, including John Jakob Raskob, Jouett Shouse, and the Du Pont family. Alfred E. Smith was also a supporter. The league had a membership of about 125,000, but it faded after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s election success in 1936 and was dissolved in 1940.
