Grand Coulee Dam

   Construction of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in Washington began in 1933 and was completed in 1942 as part of the Columbia River Reclamation Project. At the time, it was the largest concrete dam in the world and provided power and irrigation for 11 western states.
